A New Heritage, Curated by Soto Gallery, Courtesy of Plus 234Art Fair, Circa: 2024 E coBank Plc and Africa Finance Corporation present their first pilot edition art fair in Lagos under the umbrella name “Plus 234Art,” a name coined by merging Nigeria’s country code (+234) together with the encompassing term “Art.” And the art fair will be curated by SOTO Gallery, a contemporary art space in the heart of Lagos.   This year’s exhibition, entitled “A New Heritage,” will showcase over two hundred emerging artists and creatives across the country at the EcoBank Pan African Centre, 270B Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Victoria Island, Lagos, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily, between March 22 and 31, 2024. Portrait of Multidisciplinary Performance Artist and Activist Colleen Ndemeh Fitzgerald, Photo by Maza Rey “It became a necessity that I needed more tools, more mediums, and different art to say what I needed to say over time.” – Colleen Ndemeh On February 8, 2024, Craat8ev Buxc’s Oluwapelumi Shemuel interviewed the multi-disciplinary and performance artist, Colleen Ndemeh Fitzgerald, at the Lagos Biennial 2024 held at Tafawa Balewa Square, Onikan, Lagos, where she together with Kukily Collective showcased their project entitled “XTRÆNCESTRAL.” Colleen is an activist of Kpelle (Liberian) and Euro-American descent. Her work is movement-based and centers on women of the African diaspora, as well as feminist, antiracist, and decolonial politics. The movement comes from Afro-diasporic, West African, and contemporary dance techniques.
